From a young age, I have always been interested in creating. I went to a private elementary school until 5th grade, and I remember that my favorite part would be the instances they’d bring out craft supplies. However, once I switched over to public school I was introduced to art classes - and was IMMEDIATELY hooked. As a little 6th grader, I was accepted into the advanced art program from 7th grade into my freshman year of high school. I immersed myself into every art-based class I could grasp after that. In college, I was determined to immerse myself into a creative field that was new to me. Who knew the realm of photography/potojournaliam (the ONLY “art class” I didn’t take pre-college) would have ignited a fire in my soul that has opened up a world of possibilities today!
There are three things that generally keep me inspired: People, music, and the world around me. It sounds pretty cliche, but all three contain little aspects that really correlate with the way I produce work. All three subjects wrap around the idea that there are SO many ways that they can be interpreted - which makes them unique - which I find BEAUTIFUL!
I genuinely love doing anything creative, or figuring out a creative outlook in something most would look at or conceptualize as “ordinary”. I also have a passion for helping others, as I have worked in the EMS field for almost six years and love helping people. Although they may seem spectrums apart, I feel like my heavy art background combined with a love for helping people has helped me indulge and identify who I am as an individual today.
This might sound crazy, but I actually LOVE learning. Whether it’s learning something completely new and out of my comfort zone, or honing in on new skills in a current system I know. Being able to learn for me is being able to embrace a new, cool challenge, as well as add to my “toolkit” of talents. As an added bonus, who wouldn’t want to learn something cool to add to their skillset?!
Some of my favorite memories are the reactions I get from my clients. Seeing their faces light up while they remember their special day makes my heart fill to the brim with joy! I couldn’t just pick one specific memory at this time, but the reactions make what I do absolutely worth it.
(PREMISE - If you know me, I’m probably always thinking about the future, or some goal I’ve set for myself.) I remember Darik had approached me asking advice on locations for potential photos. I asked what they’d be for - intrigued in the process. Little did I know what I’d get myself into, because I ended up tagging along, helped set up, and photographed the shoot we talked about! It was a lot of fun, and a great chance to start to get to know two of my cohort mates (if this hasn’t been said in a bio yet, we’re all in grad school together). A little later, I had asked Darik more about Deftly and...well, here I am today! As one of three founders, I’m elated to be working alongside some extremely talented creative minds, and so happy graduate school brought our team together. I feel confident that Deftly will exceed our clientele’s expectations with the work we produce, and can definitely see a bright future.
Art supplies, new camera gear, name brand handbags, and traveling.
I’d turn the world into my canvas. Literally.
Forcefield/Invisibility - kinda like Violet from The Incredibles
Taylor Swift’s song - Shake it off. (This is also apparently my theme song.)
Anything considered “floral” or “artsy”
I’ve been a dancer since I was two years old. I danced ballet, character (a type of folk dancing), jazz, tap, etc. until I graduated high school. I then picked up ballroom dancing in college! (Safe to say...I love to dance)
The “mom”or “grandma” usually. lol
Something relatively simple and timeless, but with floral. HOWEVER, if the flowers could change based on the mood, day, or season though...THAT would be epic.
A cat, obviously.
